Rice water for hair : yao women recipe
Rice water for hair growth?
Hello beautiful people ๐ธ . I welcome you all to yet another interesting and hot topic . Almost all of you by now might have heard or watched something regarding rice water's benefits . I'll be discussing the benefits, side effects, the real recipe to follow and the myths . It is very important to make the rice water correctly in order to acheive the maximum benefits from it. So if you want complete information regarding this topic ...hey! You're at the right place. So, let's jump into it ...i hope you are excited๐ค
So as to understand every detail of it , let's just have a look at its history , like where did the people even got the idea of using rice water on their hair. It's quite strange ...isn't it?
The whole concept dates back to the heian period between 794 - 1186. The Japenese women were known to have long, floor length hair and according to them they washed hair in rice water. Also, the Yao women in china are known to have long repunzul like hair. They claim to use the fermented rice water recipe like the japenese women. Here's a picture of their beautiful, long, black, shiny hair.
As you can see this is something that actually caught the attention of the whole world because they not only have long hair but these hair are healthy and they are known to have black hair even at the age of 70 or 80 ...maybe more๐ค.
Inspired from them many skin care and hair care brands now claim to have rice water as an ingredient. The benefit it provide to the hair are because of the presence of many nutrients like amino acids, antioxidants, minerals, selenium, magnesium, folic acid, vitamin B1 -B6, vitamin C, vitamin E vitamin K and inocitol. That's a lot right๐ด. No wonder why it has gain so much popularity. The presence of vitamin B helps in preventing the hair from turning grey.
But Hey! Hey! Hey! ....spoiler alert! there's no magical spill or quick fix for hair growth .( except for the extentions lol !) You can't grow inches of hair within a few days ....๐ณ . It actually depends on your genetics. The outer sources can only help to provide the essential nutrients and speed up the process a little bit but won't do a miracle overnight. So is the case of rice water. But still you can try out the rice water because it does have lots of nutrients. You can even try out the products available in the market in case you want to!
Okay, without getting much distracted lets get back to the yao women. Me personally , i do a lot of research before actually trying anything on me ...(I recommend you all to do the same) and instead of believing what everyone else is saying or demonstrating, i searched the actual recipe that the Yao women followed and here i am sharing the recipe that is actually taken from the Yao women ....here it goes....๐
The first ingredient rather the key ingredient here is of course rice. You can use any rice available but avoid using brown rice because it has way too much protein content that can actually damage your hair. According to Yao women the smaller rice or the sticky rice are the best to use .
1.Take about one cup of rice and rinse them in water so as to get rid of dirt and dust. Do not wash it too much, you might flush away the starch and the nutrients that are actually needed.
2. Take the washed rice in a bowl and add water to it . To be a bit precise : one cup of rice and four cups of water ( you can dilute it if you are trying it for the first time and don't want to expose your hair with too much protein). Wash the rice throughly between your palms so that all the essential nutrients are transferred from rice to water.
3. Separate the rice and water, you can use rice for anything else, we'll be needing only the water for further process. Boil this nutrient rich water along with some "magical ingredients"๐ฎ. These women added peels of pomelo fruit. Don't freak out ...its just a citrus fruit and can be replaced by oranges or any other citrus fruit like "grape fruit"(this one is not that common but if you can manage to get your hands on it somehow!).Oranges are a great option and quite readily available. Peel one whole fruit and add all the peels .
Extra tip๐ก: Yao women used some herbs and oils which can be replaced by any of your favorite essential oil. This would give it a nice and beautiful fragrance. You can totally skip this step if you don't have an essential oil.
4. Boil the contents for around 10 to 15 minutes.
5. Here comes the interesting part with a twist ...๐ฑ. Many of the you tubers and bloggers ask to ferment this water for 24 hours. But we are following the recipe of Yao women and according to them they actually ferment it for at least a "week" and maximum a "month". ๐ฒ strange right! But thats what fermentation is and it takes place after a few days according to the "science". I understand we all do not have that much patience ...but you need to ferment it for at least a week so as to get the best out of it.
6. Take an air tight jar or a container and transfer the boiled contents to it. Keep this jar or container in a dark place and now you can take rest for a week and allow the fermentation to do its miracle.๐
7. Hey! Its been a week sice we've left the jar. Let's see what is it doing all alone. Take the jar out and now your fermented rice water is ready.๐๐ป Use this water for cleansing your hair. Okay! Okay! I know we are all used to using the lathering shampoos. So first you can use a shampoo. No issues! But if you are too determined and want to see the effect of it without using any chemical then its great.... up to you ๐ค. You can use the rice water directly.
8. Yao women used a bucket or a tub and put their head above it and then gently pour the rice water on dry scalp. And wash the hair with that only. You can try washing your hair upside down like the Yao women. I'll be glad to hear about your first experience๐.
9. Leave it on your hair for around 20 -30 minutes and then rinse it with mild water. Instead of using tap water you can use distilled water or filtered water. This is just an add on to be a bit more mainstream with the Yao women because they use fresh spring water.( which is definitely not possible).
10. Air dry your hair and see the difference. You won't notice any drastic difference in the first use ....if anyone does please let me know in the comment section below.
So, yeah that was it ! It was the best recipe i could find and was probably the most accurate one.
But hold your horses for a bit ! And before actually getting into it....you need to have a look at these points below.
I promised you to put forward anything and everything about this topic. Its a famous and trendy topic lowkey but you must know that the japenese and the chinese women have been exposed to this perticular mrthod for years and generations. They are used to it!!! And we are "not". People on internet are claiming that this actually damaged their hair. The reason behind these claims is that our hair can not actually tolerate the sudden exposure to this much amount of nutrients and protien. For being on the safer side you can dilute the recipe and can cut short the time it will actually be present in your hair. As mentioned in step 9 instead of keeping it on for 30 minutes reduce the timing to 15 or 10 minutes according to your preference. Trying it out or not is completely your choice you need to keep all the pros and cons in mind.
That's all i have to say...i've coverd everything possible but if you have any doubt or just in case i missed out on anything i'll be more than happy to hear abt it rather read abt it from you guys in the comments section. Please share your experiences too๐ค
Thank you❤
